In My Kitchen ... in December

In My Kitchen ... in December

In my kitchen ... in December the Christmas pudding hangs maturing in its calico cloth. This year I'm trying Maggie Beer's recipe from one of my favourite cookbooks 'Maggie's Table'. The uncooked mixture tasted superb - and OK, I admit I had more than one taste! I can't wait for the Christmas dinner reveal of the cooked pudding!




In my kitchen ... in December I am thrilled to have found my local Foodland Supermarket at Norwood is stocking Pepe Saya products! I will using Pepe Saya cultured butter to make a superb brandy butter to go with the Christmas pudding! Yum!






In my kitchen ... in December I am using this old chopping board - given to me by my late Mum.  It brings back treasured memories of cooking in her kitchen and learning from her! I do miss her, and Dad, and those precious moments. This beautiful board has a juice ring and is very useful when cutting anything that leaks! My Mum knew what she was doing!





In my kitchen ... in December my annual purchase of new Christmas tea towels will add a festive touch to doing the dishes!






In my kitchen ... in December we are enjoying cherries grown in locally in the Adelaide Hills. How I wish the cherry season was longer!








In my kitchen ... in December these cookie cutters will get a workout! I make biscuits each year to give away as gifts.






In my kitchen ... in December I'm using this stone shortbread mould. Bought at an after Christmas sale last year I fell in love with the Scots thistle motif. This Christmas it will be my way of paying tribute to the Scottish part of my ancestry!







Finally, from my kitchen to yours ... in December I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy and Safe New Year!

  1. Whopee! I can't wait to buy some of the Adelaide cherries- I've got a new recipe in mind. (But I haven't figured out how to pit the cherries yet, other than biting into them. I think I must buy a device to remove the cherry stones)! I also have been experimenting with some shortbread moulds ('cookie stamps') and I find it difficult to keep the design from fading when the dough cooks. Oh, well, I'll just keep trying!     1. Hi Fran, I can recommend a cherry pipper as an essential piece of kitchen equipment for all cherry lovers! Do cover up however as those juicy little critters splatter juice all over anything white or good! I share your experience with the shortbread moulds - I wonder if there is a trick to it that we are missing!

    1. I love Christmas pudding! It was always made superbly by my late Mum, however when she passed away three years ago I inherited the position of 'pudding maker' - so I'm very new to it! My fingers are crossed that the one I've made will taste great on the day!

  4. Hi Marian, love the cheery colours in this post! So lovely to have your mother's board… I still have many of my mum and dad's kitchen things too, and treasure them so. The pudding sounds grand! Being Hungarian, we never ate pudding and I really have only made one pudding in my life, and that was in the microwave… a Janelle Bloom recipe, which is quite good. Must make a traditional pudding for Peter some day. Happy cooking and much cheer.

    1. Hi Kim! I wondered if anyone would notice the cherries and the 'tea towel cherries'! Well spotted! I really do love them! My chopping board is 'my Mum's presence' in my kitchen - she was a great teacher, and her love of cooking has been passed on to my sister and I and our children.

  6. What absolute treasureS - a bread board from your mother and NEW tea towels! Cherries - I love seeing all the Australians posting cherries- makes my mouth water!
    And the thistle in your shortbread mold is lovely- I have several molds- but not one with exclusively thistles.
